TRAINING IN THE PROCESSING OF STRAW WASTE AS A HANDICRAFTED PRODUCT IN CURAHMALANG-SUMOBITO-JOMBANG VILLAGE

Abstract

Curahmalang Village, Sumobito District, Jombang Regency is one of the villages with the majority of the population working as farmers and farm labourers. Seeing these conditions, the agricultural land in this village is planted with rice plants, which each time the harvest causes an increase in the quantity of straw waste and has not been utilized or processed by the community as a handicraft product. To overcome this problem the PKM team provided a solution, namely training on processing straw waste as a handicraft product, with the target of priority training participants being the PKK Dahlia group of mothers. The method of implementation includes: (1) initial observation, (2) implementation of training activities, (3) monitoring and evaluation of training activities. The results of this training activity among others: (1) 80% of the PKK Dahlia group of women had increased their knowledge and skills in making handicrafts from straw waste, (2) reduced straw waste that previously accumulated as trash and caused environmental pollution around the house, (3) the results of the evaluation also showed that the group of PKK Dahlia women were satisfied with the training activities provided by the team, so they asked to return to continue in the next period the training activities for making handicraft products from banana stem waste.
