Planting 1000 Mangrove Trees to Improve the Welfare of Coastal Communities

Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem is an area that is very important in maintaining the level of diversity of organisms in the sea. Now the existence of mangrove forests has begun to be damaged, and is only a small collection of separated mangrove plants. Part of the coastal area of ??Mangkoso, Wiringtasi, Soppeng Raja sub-district, Barru Regency is a mangrove ecosystem area consisting of mangrove and nipa palm trees. Damage to mangroves in this area is caused by abrasion, people who not pay attention to the carrying capacity of the coastal environment, as well as a lack of knowledge and awareness of local people about the mangrove ecosystem ecologically and economically.

This service is to provide assistance to coastal communities to increase understanding of the benefits of the existence of mangrove ecosystems for community welfare by increasing fishermen's catches in the form of fish, shrimp and crab. Mangrove ecosystems can also be used as producers for household needs, producers for industrial needs and producers of seeds. The method used is a presentation of knowledge regarding the use of mangrove ecosystems, discussion and practice of planting 1000 mangrove trees. The result of this activity is increased understanding of the mangrove ecosystem which will improve the welfare of coastal communities.
